This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Human Resources Director at the YMCA of Central New York will be a critical part of the of the Human Resource (HR) department leading the organization by supporting with recruiting and on-boarding staff, managing benefits, all leave programs, educating employees and coaching supervisors on company policies and practices, being visible in branches and developing a welcoming culture. The Human Resources Director provides leadership and assures an environment of trust, respect, and welcoming for all.
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources, and at least 2 years in a leadership role preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in all aspects of human resources.
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop a high-performing team.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
• Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Developing and maintains positive relationships and trust with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
• Knows, follows, and communicates all YMCA policies, guidelines, regulations, and procedures, including compliance, safety, risk management, those for the prevention of child abuse, and staff expectations as required by the YMCA, licensing, and state and federal laws, and supports other staff to do the same.
• Support the HRIS Director with tasks such as but not limited to: recruitment, volunteers, criminal background checks, reference checks, onboarding, payroll status changes, and offboarding.
• Performs all procedures related to Leave and Benefit Administration.
• Completes processing of workers compensation, unemployment, insurance and disability claims as required.
• Effectively interprets and responds to questions, and coaches all staff including supervisors on employment policies, procedures, retirement, leave management and employee benefits.
• Implements, manages, and acts as a liaison to all branches supporting directors in all employee matters such as but limited to learning and development, compliance, performance management,
employee recognition programs, new hire orientations and employee relations.
• Manage the employee feedback mechanisms, such as surveys, focus groups and exit interviews, and analyze the data to identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local safety and employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
• Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
• Researches and recommends, and upon approval, implements and communicates policy changes as necessary to ensure a safe, healthy, productive, positive, engaging and legally compliant
environment.
• Reviews and processes all mail, billings, and other administrative tasks related to the HR department.
• Foster a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion that promotes respect, collaboration and innovation among employees and groups at all levels. Leading with the intention of becoming an employer of choice.
• Travel to all branches as required.
• Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
• Is willing to step up, even if outside of the position description, to contribute to the overall success of the YMCA.

• Must complete annual safety, combating sexual-harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings assigned by human resources prior to direct service.
• Must have current CPR and First Aid within the first 30 days of employment.
• SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred but not required.
• Valid drivers license required.
