Job Description

The Bridgeport Y offers access to affordable child care, youth and teen programs, summer camp, youth swim lessons and safety around water programming. Participants are served in several centers through the city, including the main branch on Park Avenue; the Kolbe Education Center; and the Ralphola Taylor Community Center (RTCC), as well as afterschool sites. The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the Bridgeport Y branch, including leadership and direction for the facility, program operations, fiscal management, strategic development of an engaged board of managers, and leadership for the annual campaign. Strong, strategic relationships will be built and maintained with current and prospective partners inside and outside of the Y. This position requires vision for potential growth with strong leadership to engage stakeholders and to develop and execute a plan based on community needs and opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years’ progressive leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong community relationships, especially in convening local stakeholders and responding to specified community needs
  • Proven skills in written and oral communication, grant writing experience preferred
  • Significant fundraising experience, i.e., leading annual campaign of at least $35,000 and/or capital campaign of at least $500,000
  • Budget responsibility of at least $1 million
  • Board development experience inclusive of fundraising and advocacy
  • Successful staff supervision and development experience
  • Must have high level of computer competency, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team-oriented, and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support members and staff
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification (or ability to achieve within 2 years of hire) and willingness to seek advanced training and added responsibilities
  • Knowledge of nonprofit and/or Y operations and understanding of the Y and its mission
Essential Functions
  1. Develop, maintain, and facilitate positive relationships with and between volunteers, members, program participants, staff, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  2. Direct the volunteer activities of the branch and develop strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels including board development.
  3. Represent and promote the Bridgeport Y in the local community and develop collaborative relationships with other community agencies, businesses, and governmental entities.
  4. Develop and execute plan to achieve Annual Campaign fundraising goals.
  5. Manage branch facilities (Park Ave; Kolbe; RTCC) on a daily basis, ensuring that regular activities and special programs/events run smoothly.
  6. Lead, support, supervise, and build staff team in accordance with the strategic and operating plan.
  7. Contribute continued growth to the CCCY Real Time Strategic Plan goal benchmarks.
  8. Develop, manage, and monitor the branch’s operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets.
  9. Ensure the safety, risk management, and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  10. Direct branch marketing efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  11. Serve as member of Executive Management Team (EMT) supporting the overall objectives of the CCCY.
  12. Assume association responsibilities on a project basis and actively participate as a leader or member of the CCCY Quality Teams as required/requested.
