Job Description

The Alpha Community Services Y provides Family Navigation; Emergency Shelter focused on families; Permanent Supportive Housing; Supportive Services to Veteran Families and also has been instrumental in creating and sustaining the Bridgeport Housing First Collaborative. The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the Alpha Community Services Y branch, including leadership and direction for the facility, program operations, fiscal management, strategic development of an engaged board of managers, and leadership for the annual campaign. Strong, strategic relationships will be built and maintained with current and prospective partners inside and outside of the Y. This position requires vision for potential growth with strong leadership to engage stakeholders and to develop and execute a plan based on community needs and opportunities. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years’ progressive leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong community relationships, especially in convening local stakeholders and responding to specified community needs
  • Significant fundraising experience, i.e., leading annual campaign of at least $35,000 and/or capital campaign of at least $500,000
  • Experience managing government grants and contracts
  • Strong budget management skills with a minimum responsibility of $1 million.
  • Board development experience inclusive of fundraising and advocacy
  • Successful staff supervision and development experience
  • Experience with the Coordinated Access Network (CAN), Connecticut’s statewide system for addressing homelessness, preferred
  • Must have high level of computer competency, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team-oriented, and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support members and staff
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification (or ability to achieve within 2 years of hire) and willingness to seek advanced training and added responsibilities
  • Knowledge of nonprofit and/or Y operations and understanding of the Y and its mission
Essential Functions
  1. Develop, maintain, and facilitate positive relationships with and between volunteers, members, program participants, staff, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  2. Direct the volunteer activities of the branch and develop strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels including board development.
  3. Oversee federal and state grant program including securing, spending, and compliance.
  4. Develop, manage, and monitor the branch’s operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets.
  5. Develop and execute plan to achieve Annual Campaign fundraising goals.
  6. Represent and promote the Alpha Community Services Y in the local community and develop collaborative relationships with other community agencies, businesses, and governmental entities.
  7. Lead, support, supervise, and build staff team in accordance with the strategic and operating plan.
  8. Manage branch facilities on a daily basis, ensuring that regular activities and special programs/events run smoothly.
  9. Contribute continued growth to the CCCY Real Time Strategic Plan goal benchmarks.
  10. Ensure the safety, risk management, and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  11. Direct branch marketing efforts to effectively communicate benefit to the community.
  12. Serve as member of Executive Management Team (EMT) supporting the overall objectives of the CCCY.
  13. Assume association responsibilities on a project basis and actively participate as a leader or member of the CCCY Quality Teams as required/requested.

Required Certifications

CPR/First Aid/AED certification within first 90 days of employment
