Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the direction and in consultation of the Regional Vice President of Operations, the CenterExecutive is responsible for all Center decision-making and operations including driving the financial development strategy, community engagement, business operations, facility management, human resources, membership, and program/membership services of the Center in accordance with the policies, by-laws, and constitution of the YMCA of Greater Boston. This position reports to and is accountable to the Regional Vice President of Operations. 

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

• Board & Financial Development- Drive all fundraising and financial development initiatives in the community.

• Directs the Annual Campaign to fund the mission-related work of the Center.

• Community engagement- Enhance the Y’s participation in the community and recruit committed volunteers. Recruits, maintains and engages a productive Board of Advisors.

• Staff Development- Direct responsibility and supervision for a Center staff team. Direct reports include; Associate Executive Director.

• Trend identification and implications for the Center and related operating units:

      o Membership Retention and Growth

      o Program Development

      o Philanthropy

      o External environment changes

      o Service area demographics

• Creates an annual budget and executes to the plan:

• Works with Center staff on a timely basis to correct financial deficiencies.

• Participates in the monthly Executive Workshop and disseminates information discussed

to Center staff.

• Project support for the Senior Vice President of Operations.

• Provides solutions for Center specific and/or Association-wide challenges.

• Financial Budget

      o Program enrollment (Aquatics, Sports, Youth Enrichment, Health & Wellness and

Active Older Adults)

      o Membership Sales & Retention

      o Annual Campaign

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• BS/BA Four year college degree.

• Minimum of eight years professional YMCA or similar professional experience

• YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred 

Skills/Know How:

• Superior Communication skills- both written and verbal.

• Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.

• Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.

• Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission. 

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

Work Environment:

• Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours required periodically.

• Occasional travel required

• Annual Campaign targets are accomplished.

• A high functioning Board of Advisors.

• Operating models are in place and consistently implemented for:

      o Membership Desk

      o Membership Sales & Retention

      o Cross-selling (program to membership and vice versa)

• Timely action planning is in place (with effective end-results) for operating units and/or program areas that have  performance concerns.

• Complete knowledge of operating details of programs and Center operations.

• Operating unit and Center staff are reaching their true potential.
