Job Description

The Area Supervisor at the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, under the direction of the Certified Aquatic Professional, will assist with the responsibility for all components of the city beaches or pool while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. The Area Supervisor will assist with the operation of the facility, coach staff, and manage administrative duties and record-keeping.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or at least 3 years of experience in the aquatic field
  • 1 year of experience in supervision
  • Requires completion and maintaining certification as Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and Pool Operator. 
  • Strong communication and human relations skills in dealing with staff and members are essential. This position requires decision-making skills, as it relates to aquatic safety and the efficient operation of the aquatic area
  • Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
  • Possess and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications.
Essential Functions
  • Ensures that the highest aquatic standards are constantly maintained.
  • Assumes a lead role during shift and directly carries out leadership responsibilities to effectively oversee, train, guide, and evaluate staff (attendance, rotations, safety rule enforcement, etc.)
  • Serves as a role model and resource for staff and maintain professional communication and behavior at all times
  • Proficient in all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
  • Communicates with the Director about any concerns regarding safety, staff, or the public.
  • Engages in positive public relations with patrons and models for other staff
  • Conducts regular safety inspections of aquatic facility and environment
  • Ensures appropriate staff coverage for all operating hours; monitor all instructor/lifeguard scheduling & substitutions; cover open shifts if necessary
  • Assists with in-service training of staff on a regular basis to ensure the highest standards of safety and Risk Management
  • Ensures clear, concise and consistent information is communicated to staff and the public.
  • Responsible for the management of the facility (record-keeping, log books, incident reports, testing, city/state compliance and payroll)
  • Assumes responsibility for the physical upkeep of the aquatic facility and environment
  • Documents and notifies Director of incidents/accidents, member questions/concerns, damaged equipment, supply needs, etc.
  • Maintains certifications listed under Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations.
  • Receives and carries out instructions
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times; wear clothing that meets the YMCA dress code.
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Certifications
  • Possess and maintain CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications.
