Job Description

Develops, organizes, and implements high quality YMCA school age programs (Kids’ Korner, holiday/vacation, snow day and summer enrichment) that support the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director is also responsible for oversight of all teen programs at the YMCA, which include, but are not limited to Teen Nights, Andre’s Allstars, afterschool enrichment programs and Teen Mentoring. The Director supervises multiple exempt professional staff in the School Age and Teen departments. 

Qualifications
  • A minimum of three years related experience is preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of school-age childcare programs or enrichment and/or educational programs.
  • Previous experience managing grant funding programming including, but not limited to, grant data management and reporting, grant staff team management and hands on community work.
  • Have experience providing educational enrichment services to youth.
  • Minimum age requirements may apply.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions
  • Manages, directs, and coordinates all school age & teen programs. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote school age & teen programs and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure program participants connect with one another and with the YMCA.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Manages grants in each department including implementation, monitoring and reporting in coordination with the Vice President.
  • Assures all site compliance with all licensing mandates. Complete regular licensing checks of all sites. Maintain licensing records, complete required licensing paperwork, submit licensing packets and compliance reports as needed.
  • Develops, manages, and controls budgets for programs. Ensures program operates within budget and program fees are collected.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
  • Ensures YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs through continual communication and collaboration.
  • Respond to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of, and participation in, programs.
  • Directs and supervises teen classes to meet YMCA objectives. Expands Y program offerings and participation in programs within the community.
  • Create and build a strong community for the teen population via special events, series and workshops.
  • Collaborate with community organizations (Youth Service Bureau, Community Health Center, Wesleyan) in order to strengthen existing programs and develop new programs.
  • Ability to create curriculum and trainings that facilitate age appropriate skills.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision of special activities within both the Teen and Kids’ Korner Department as well as at interdepartmental YMCA special events.

  • Work with supervisor to promote key elements of the strategic plan.
  • Interpret the YMCA as a membership organization and represent the YMCA positively at work and in the community at all times.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to all association special events.
  • Update professional knowledge through self-study, research and conference and workshop participation.
  • Cultivates strong working relationships with the YMCA members, staff, program participants and parents.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains current physical and TB test.

Required Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
  • Certified State of Connecticut Head Teacher for School Age Childcare Programs or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
