Job Description
If you are chosen as our candidate, you will be expected to supervise the waterfront at camp--being responsible for the waterfront safety and overall supervision of teaching of YMCA swimming lessons, guarding of free swimming, and the leading of boating (canoeing); The position requires pre-camp training held in June and the position runs for the duration of camp from late June to late August.
Qualifications
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Must have 2 months prior experience in supervisory role at a similar aquatics’ facility and/or verification in aquatics management/supervision
- Current Lifeguard Training from a nationally recognized organization
- Current CPR Training for the professional rescuer/healthcare provider by a nationally recognized organization
- Must have First Aid Training from a nationally recognized organization
- Water Safety & Swimming Instructor (WSI) from a nationally recognized organization (preferably American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor) which includes both Swim instruction for all ages and swim and Basic Water Safety/Rescue Instruction levels.
Essential Functions
- At all times, display: Enthusiasm, acceptance, sensitivity, patience, and self-control.
- Plan and implement daily lessons and free swims.
- Instructors must be in the water for every swim lesson.
- Help plan camp-wide activities.
- Assist other camping staff when needed.
- Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and Family Nights.
- Ensure the safety of campers and staff while in the waterfront areas.
- Prepare, maintain, and breakdown the beach/swim areas daily.
- Maintain equipment and property.
- Develop progressive swim programs for all abilities.
- Supervise boating programs.
- Alert Camp Director of any dangerous situations.
- Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Tri Community Branch YMCA in the Staff Handbook, and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration – including internet / cell phone policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
- Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
- Set Face-Book, Twitter, Tumbler accounts etc., to Private and refrain from having any internet communication with program participants / staff under the age of 18.
Required Certifications
- Current Lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized organization
- Current CPR certification for professional rescuer/healthcare provider by a nationally recognized organization
- Current First Aid certification from a nationally recognized organization
- Current Water Safety & Swimming Instructor (WSI) from a nationally recognized organization
