As a key member of the Leadership Team, the Healthy Living Director will provide extraordinary customer service, communications, and programming to current and prospective YMCA members. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, administration, growth and evaluation of effective, innovative and safe aquatics, healthy living and sports programs. You will build new relationships with members that move along a continuum from a causal connection to a committed level through increased engagement. The Healthy Living Director will also supervise/lead Healthy Living Advocate, Personal Trainers, Small Group Training, Group Fitness, Special Events, and agreed-upon Wellness programming at the branch and beyond, depending on the candidate's experience in this area. The Healthy Living Director will also oversee the Sports and Wellness Coordinator.

SUPERVISION: Leads, coaches and mentors a high-performing and engaging Aquatics, Sports, and Wellness Departments. Ensures staff are achieving metric targets and producing meaningful qualitative results. Provides leadership in the daily operations of the branch. Communicates across departments to inspire member focused culture that results in increased member retention.

• Healthy Living Advocates: 5 part-time specialists dedicated to the well-being of our members and staff

• Personal Trainers: 2 part-time Personal Trainers dedicated to results oriented programming

• Group Exercise Instructor:19 part-time Group Exercise staff delivering fun, safe, effective group fitness classes

• Sports Coordinator: 1 Sports Coordinator ensuring engage in fun and safe physical activity. 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

• Develops and manages the Aquatics, Wellness, and Sports operating budgets and meets or exceeds budget targets.

• Responsible for total annual revenue: $100,000 

SALES & MARKETING:

• Collaborates with membership to implement annual marketing plan to drive new member recruitment. Efforts to include: personal training, group exercise, small group training, Smart Start Appointments, corporate engagement, cross-promotion, tour follow-ups, etc.

• Market private and semi-private swim lessons to outside organizations.

• Market youth sports programming to outside organizations.

• Ensure all program participants are paid in full prior to receiving services. 

ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION:

• Develops and implements sustainable member engagement strategies with focus on increasing member retention.

• Drives development of innovative and high-quality programs within the Aquatics, Healthy Living, and Sports Department, which supports branch and association mission, goals and strategies.

• Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction. Set the standards for and model exceptional member service.

• Responsible for coordinating and managing aquatics, sports, and wellness communications. In this capacity, the Healthy Living Director collaborates with the leadership team and front line staff.

• Develops and cultivates strong relationships throughout the branch, association and community. 

MEETINGS & COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in weekly Directors Meetings

• Coordinates quarterly meetings for Wellness Staff

• Coordinates monthly lifeguard in-service

• Coordinates lifeguard certification and recertifications

• Participates in monthly Board meetings  

Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in Aquatics, Fitness, Wellness, Healthy Living, or Exercise Science (Preferred)

• Nationally recognized certification in Personal Training, Wellness Coaching, Life Coaching (Preferred)

• Experience/Certification in leading Group Exercise or Small Group Training

• Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid/AED certified instructor within 6 months

• YMCA of the USA Lifeguard Instructor within 6 months

• YMCA of the USA Swim Lesson Instructor within 6 months

• YMCA of the USA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer within first year

• Previous management experience in recruitment, training, supervision of staff and volunteer groups.

• Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, particularly evening and weekend hours.

• Excellent problem solving, organizational, customer service and communication skills. 

• Ability to set the standards for and model exceptional member service and build a culture of member involvement and engagement in all staff.

• A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team.

• Sound judgment and decision making as well as problem solving and interpersonal skills to relate to people of all socio-economic levels and diverse backgrounds.

• Ability to provide facility tours, travel locally to meetings and stand for many hours at a time.

• Experience supervising and training staff.

• Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.

• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications must be obtained within 30 days.

• Willingness to obtain necessary certifications to complete job duties.

• MUST be accountable, coachable and able to adapt in fast pace environments.

Essential Functions

• Maintains a leadership presence at programs. Not expected to be at every single function. Professional look expected.

• Leads continuous improvement efforts focused upon established benchmarks including, but not limited to, the following measures by setting short term and long term agreed upon goal:(Developed with Associate Executive Director and CEO)

• Responsible for developing goals of enrollment for aquatics, sports, and wellness by researching past participant numbers

• Upkeep all certification and maintain records of staff certification

• Responsible for surveying participants and parents of programs

• Meet campaign goal through member/donor engagement. All members must be aware we are a charity

• Supports and participates in assigned aspects of the Annual Giving Campaign

• Accept and complete any assignments as deemed appropriate by the Associate Executive Director and CEO

• Responsible for effective communication between departments

• Participates in the planning of the annual budget
