Job Description

Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA, a premier overnight summer camp for youth in Southern New England, is offering an opportunity for a human resources intern to support and onboard 400+ summer seasonal staff coming from all around the globe.

Located on nearly 1500 forested acres in the Town of Becket, nestled within the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is an independent YMCA camp which operates programs serving hundreds of campers. Boasting over a century of tradition, our industry leading programs include the Camp Becket for boys and Chimney Corners Camp for girls, the Travel & Service Programs, and Becket Day Camp.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager and Payroll Specialist, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in aspects of recruitment, outreach, onboarding, and customer service to a diverse summer seasonal workforce.

Many of our staff travel together after camp season and connect for years to come.  For staff seeking internship opportunities, we can help you connect with resources and/or customize aspects of your job to fit an internship structure.  Eligible for up to 8 weeks of enrollment for your children in our day camp and reduced rates for our residential programs. 

Schedule & Hours

Remote part-time hours available until May 15th.  May 15th - July 30th up to 40 hours per week primarily onsite to facilitate onboarding tasks.  August 1 - 15th part-time hours available onsite.

Requires some evenings and weekends.

General Working Conditions

1. Ability to work flexible schedule with irregular work hours including evening and weekend hours.

2. Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.

3. Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.

4. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

5. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

6. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated use of Microsoft Office including Excel as well as Google Workspace
  • Highly organized with attention to detail 
  • Effective use of a wide range of communication tools including the phone, texting, messaging, video conferencing, and emailing
  • Customer service oriented
  • Camp experience desired, not required.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with the program team and Communications Coordinator to implement recruitment campaign.
  • Together with the hiring manager, conduct outreach to prospective employees leading up to their arrival in summer.
  • Conduct and maintain record of background screenings as assigned. 
  • Monitor and follow-up with staff to ensure completion of onboarding tasks in ADP Workforce Now and UltraCamp.
  • Create customized onboarding folders, following-up with employees to ensure all documentation received. 
  • Serve as Check-in Coordinator as it relates to onboarding staff and “paperwork parties,” working in collaboration with Camp Office staff to ensure staff are fully onboarded in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide customer service to seasonal employees re: onboarding tasks such as registration for ADP to complete direct deposit, taxes and review company policies. 
  • Support international staff J1 visa holders with submission of social security applications to obtain social security cards in a timely fashion. 
  • Coordinate with local camp office staff to distribute and educate employees re: issuing and activating paycards.
