Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director at the Harrison Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs including but not limited to: swim lessons, swim team, lifeguard training courses.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Two or more years of Aquatics related experience required (e.g., as an aquatics coordinator, lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, etc.).
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Scheduling flexibility based on meeting demands of job roles: early mornings, late nights, and weekend work possible.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License.
  • Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed with a driving record that meets YMCA policies.
  • Proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
Essential Functions
  1. Directs and ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  2. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  3. Recruits, hires, and trains diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity under the direct supervision of the Associate Executive Director. Onboards and develops staff for success. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  4. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR courses.
  5. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  6. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; secures and schedules the pool facilities; and creates and schedules the classes, practices, and meets.
  7. Assists in the Harrison Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign Fundraising activities.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer.

Required Certifications
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator preferred.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or Instructor Trainer certification preferred.
  • Within 30 days of hire, American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR/AED and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer; the following trainings provided by the Y: Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse; Appropriate Touch; Child Sexual Abuse Prevention; Hazard Communication for Employees; Managing Your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens; Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls; Risk Management 101; Safe Lifting; and Social Media & Digital Communications.
