Camp Minikani, part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, is currently seeking Summer Equestrian Instructors.
Job Description
Under the direction of the YMCA Camp Minikani Director of Administration, and in accordance with the nature and policies of the Branch and Association, the Summer Instructor, Equestrian, will assist with training corral staff and assist with lessons for campers while at the barn. This person will also be responsible for the day-to-day care of the animals on property at the Equestrian Center (Barn).
Qualifications
- Available to work May 1st - August 31st.
- Must be at least 18 yrs old.
- Possess a knowledge of horses, including safe handling, care, feeding, and medicating.
- CPR, First Aid certification required. Lifeguard encouraged. Those hired will be certified.
- Must be passionate and have a prior experience working with children ages 7 - 15.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 40lbs.
- Ability to work flexible shfits, including nights and weekends.
- The incumbent will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of their work within the YMCA.
Essential Functions
- Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
- Assist counselors with lessons on horsemanship and care for campers in corral, including assisting with lessons for campers
- Assist with teaching corral summer staff appropriate handling and care of horses.
- Cover AM and PM chore shifts, ensuring proper care of horses and other farm animals throughout the summer
